The Helsinki Deaconess Institute is a 143-year-old public utility foundation that provides social and health -care services as well as educational programmes in these fields. The foundation’s public-utility operations cover diaconia services, the Helsinki Diaconia College, development services as well as internal services.

The Helsinki Deaconess Institute Group is formed by the foundation and the fully-owned companies thereof. The most significant subsidiaries are Diacor terveyspalvelut Oy, Helsingin Diakonissalaitoksen Hoiva Oy and Diakoniset kiinteistöpalvelut Oy

The group employs approximately 1600 people, half of which are employed by the subsidiaries. In 2010, the Group’s result was 120 million Euros.

The production of services as well as the education and training that is offered all reflect the foundation’s focus on meeting the needs of special-interest groups. The development of new models of operation and working methods as well as the testing thereof is mainly completed in the Diaconia projects and in the diaconia-oriented education.
