The fast-in-responding and experimental diaconia work of Helsinki Deaconess Institute is carried out in the form of the Diaconia Projects.
Diaconia projects of this kind include projects in which human rights require special defending. Our response is particularly geared to cases where people find themselves in distressful life situations on being socially marginalized due to feelings of guilt and shame. These diaconia projects are constantly producing new work and activity forms.
The projects are carried out in cooperation with municipalities, the state, churches, various organisations, Finland’s Slot Machine Association (RAY) and TE-keskus (Employment and Economic Development Centre).

KITU lapset ja nuoret on kolmivuotiseksi (2010–2012) suunniteltu, kidutettujen ja vaikeasti traumatisoituneiden pakolais- ja turvapaikanhakijalasten ja -nuorten mielenterveyspalveluiden kehittämishanke. Euroopan pakolaisrahasto osallistuu hankkeen rahoittamiseen. Hanke toteutetaan kiinteässä yhteistyössä Helsingin Diakonissalaitoksen Kidutettujen kuntoutuskeskuksen kanssa.

Roottori is an inclusive civic activity project carried out in Kivikko and Vesala in Helsinki and Länsimäki in Vantaa. The project is aimed at the unemployed, OAPs, and those who feel they have become marginalised in their community and wish to take some time out to think about their life choices.

VAMOS-projekti on opetusministeriön rahoittama kolmivuotinen projekti, joka on suunnattu 17–29-vuotiaille nuorille. Projektin päätavoitteena on vahvistaa nuoren omia voimavaroja ja vahvuuksia sekä tukea nuorta kiinnittymään yksilöllisesti arvioituun ja suunniteltuun toimintaan. Yksilöllisen ja ryhmämuotoisen tuen avulla pyritään löytämään nuorille uusia polkuja kouluttautua tai työllistyä.
