Detoxification Ward

The Helsinki Deaconess Institute's Detoxification Ward offers institutional detoxification care for drug users. The nature of the care is voluntary closed-ward care. The care period is 2 to 4 weeks, and further care is determined with an individual plan and is carried out either non-institutionally or in rehabilitating drug-abuser welfare institutes.

The Detoxification Ward offers a total of 28 places for patients on two separate floors and in three separate client units. 18 of these places are for clients who are aiming at rehabilitating treatment and whose mental and physical health permit the use of rehabilitating elements already during the detoxification care. 8 of the aforementioned places are initially allocated for clients in rehabilitating replacement therapy.

There are also 10 places for patients whose ward treatment focuses on the medical treatment of withdrawal symptoms, the supervision of physical and mental health as well as general care.
Dividing the Detoxification Ward into separate units offers the opportunity to promote a small-community care model and enables the patients to give up drugs in safe conditions.

Jointly with the Detoxification Ward, clients from Espoo are offered out-patient care evaluation. Clients from Helsinki or other places must seek care through the Social Services or the A-Clinic foundation Services.
