Pastoral Care for the Elderly

The means of inspiring people to remember things and to take part in discussions include old magazines and scarves of many colours.

The weekly devotional programme for the elderly is based on the events of the church year. The purpose is to create a secure and accepting atmosphere during these shared moments.

Collections of familiar hymns and songs are sung together with the elderly and familiar stories from the Bible and prayers are read.

The elderly person's state of health is taken into consideration when arranging communal events and other methods are also used alongside the spoken word to enable successful interaction. Where necessary, personal discussions are held with both the residents and their next of kin.

Constant development efforts are focused on the staff to further facilitate identification of pastoral care needs, to support the residents' spiritual life, and to develop pastoral care to match each unit's needs.
