The Church of Helsinki Deaconess Institute has proclaimed the Christian foundations of the Institute's operation for over a century. The church is open on weekdays 8.00 am – 4.00 pm. The foundation stone of Helsinki Deaconess Institute's Church was laid in 1896. The architectural drawings for the church were drawn and donated by a baron Karl August Wrede. Bishop Herman Råbergh inaugurated the church in 1898. The first deaconess was installed in this church in September of the same year. Kirkon 11-äänikertaiset urut on rakentanut Bror Axel Thulé, ja ne otettiin käyttöön jouluna 1902. Urut hankittiin diakonissojen keskuudestaan keräämillä varoilla.
The church has been refurbished several times in the course of the years. In 2004, the church was thoroughly renovated and its exterior was restored to as near to its original look as possible. Architect Ulla Rahola was in charge for the renovation work. The figure of crucified Jesus on the altar wall is the work of a 19th century Italian silversmith. It was donated by the founder of the institution, Aurora Karamzin. The organ of the Deaconess Institute's church has been entered in an Internet-based research collection of historical Finnish organs. This collection was created and it is maintained by the Department of Church Music of the Sibelius Academy. Divine Services |
