Ilkka Kantola the new head of the Deaconess Foundation’s Diaconia and Social Responsibility
The Deaconess Foundation has appointed Dr. theol., Diaconia Director Ilkka Kantola as the new head of the Deaconess Foundation’s Diaconia and Social Responsibility (Diso) operations. Kantola has worked as the Deaconess Foundation’s Diaconia Director since 2019. Before this, he took a leave of absence as a member of parliament from 2007–2019.
See the video below of Olli Holmström’s interview with Ilkka Kantola.
“The Deaconess Foundation has a long and reputable history. But its success does not stem from gazing at the past. Quite the opposite. The Deaconess Foundation’s long history results from its ability to innovate constantly and develop solutions to difficult everyday problems. I am excited to now head an area of activity, the core of which is radical development and bold tackling of social problems. I believe that as a result of our work the welfare society will be strengthened and the opportunities for a life of dignity for everyone will increase,” says Ilkka Kantola.
In his new position, Kantola works under the foundation’s CEO and is also a member of the Group Management Board. Ilkka Kantola started work on 18 May when his predecessor, Marja Pentikäinen, retired.
“I am delighted to have Ilkka as our Director of Operations, a member of the Group Management Board, and as a colleague. Ilkka’s expertise, experience, vision, and networks bring us excellent added value, and I believe that with his leadership we can better realise the objective of the foundation”, says the Deaconess Foundation’s CEO Olli Holmström.
The services provided by Diaconia and Social Responsibility operations are the non-profit diaconal activity of the foundation. The target groups involved include young people and immigrants, such as the traveller population of East Europe and undocumented asylum seekers, who are not in work or education and training. The operations also provide opportunities to exert an influence in civic activities.
