DigiFinMedia

The DigiFinMedia project strengthens the digital, financial and media literacy skills of Roma communities.

Many Roma people across Europe have very limited access to digital services, education and employment opportunities. In a world where things are increasingly handled digitally, this deepens the inequality of an already vulnerable minority. At the same time, the discrimination faced by Roma has worsened through hate speech and disinformation spreading online.

Building on previous work carried out with European partners, the Digital, Financial, Media and Information Literacy skills for Roma adults project continues the Deaconess Foundation’s work to strengthen the digital and financial skills as well as media literacy of Roma people. The project also aims to remove barriers that limit Roma inclusion, working together with educational institutions and other partners.

The project develops culturally sensitive learning materials and organises training that develops areas including employment-related skills, entrepreneurship, media literacy and critical thinking. Building strategic partnerships with adult education institutions and other organisations also plays an important role.

The DigiFinMedia project, coordinated by Diakonissalaitos, also includes three other European organisations: Romni (Italy), Udruzenje gradjana “Djurdjevdan” (Serbia) and Barikanipe (North Macedonia). The project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme.
